  23. I used to have that problem.  Also, I couldn't post mail or news.  But ftp,
  24. telnet, gopher, pop, and receiving news worked fine.  Eventually I set my
  25. MTU to some ludicrously small value (determined with much poking with
  26. 'ping -s') and everything worked fine.  (With the evaluation version of PPP,
  27. this involves a binary file editor -- and it also only worked with version
  28. 1.30; patching newer evaluation versions resulted in them not running.)

  30. Then I changed Internet service providers, and things worked OK with the
  31. default MTU.

  33. Holger swears it must be my ISP.  I guess all the IBM and Mac users have
  34. software that defaults to an MTU other than 1500; who knows?
