- I used to have that problem. Also, I couldn't post mail or news. But ftp,
- telnet, gopher, pop, and receiving news worked fine. Eventually I set my
- MTU to some ludicrously small value (determined with much poking with
- 'ping -s') and everything worked fine. (With the evaluation version of PPP,
- this involves a binary file editor -- and it also only worked with version
- 1.30; patching newer evaluation versions resulted in them not running.)

- Then I changed Internet service providers, and things worked OK with the
- default MTU.

- Holger swears it must be my ISP. I guess all the IBM and Mac users have
- software that defaults to an MTU other than 1500; who knows?
